Goals
- Zero allergic reactions at school
- Student can identify allergens in food and self-advocate
- EpiPen accessible within 1 minute at all times
Interventions
- EpiPen stored in health office and backup in classroom
- Allergen-free table available in cafeteria
- Review lunch menu weekly for potential allergens
- Train all staff on EpiPen administration and anaphylaxis signs
- Student wears medical alert bracelet
Expected Outcomes
- No allergic reactions during school year
- Student refuses food from unverified sources independently
- 100% staff compliance with allergy protocols
Emergency Action Plan
ANAPHYLAXIS SIGNS (hives, throat swelling, difficulty breathing, vomiting, dizziness): 1) Administer EpiPen 0.3mg IM in outer thigh, 2) Call 911 immediately, 3) Call parent at 405-555-0456, 4) Administer Benadryl 25mg if able to swallow, 5) Position flat with legs elevated (unless breathing difficulty—then sit up), 6) Be prepared to administer 2nd EpiPen if no improvement in 5 min.
